It looks as though UnemployedProfessors.com, as an online writing service, has been around since 2011. It had an interesting beginning – an unemployed professor was a bit bitter about being let go and unable to find employment. In fact, there were a number of professors in his same situation, as colleges and universities cut staff for cost savings. He decided to launch this academic writing company to provide students with custom writing but also to provide employment for other professors in his same situation. The company website tells its story via several cartoon-like visuals, which are both engaging and a bit humorous.

Unemployed Professors offers a complete line of academic writing to college and university students, including the following:

  • research paper
  • term paper
  • essay writing of all types and topics
  • case study
  • homework help
  • lab report

  • presentation
  • thesis and dissertation
  • review and analysis
  • editing
  • other academic papers

The company boasts that it is better than all others because it employs only professors – those who have been in college classrooms and have assigned college papers and essays to students.

Prices and Discounts

There are no set prices on any of the custom writing that the company provides. The business model is becoming increasingly popular but is not familiar with a lot of students. Basically, a student registers with the company and then posts their paper writing needs. They will be asked to provide all of the details of the order. Once posted, the registered writers then submit bids to that student.

The student will then look through the bids, maybe talk with a few applicants and then choose a writer for the job. From that point forward, there is a discussion board through which the student and writer can talk – both remain anonymous, though.

Once the custom essay, paper, or other project is complete, the student will receive that product and either approve it or ask for any changes he may want.

Because of the business model, there are not company discounts. The student can certainly negotiate pricing with the writer if he has those skills.

When the price is agreed upon, the student places the payment into an account and then releases that payment to the writer when he is satisfied with the product.

Offers and Extra Services

Unemployed Professors is very clear about what every other writing service offers as “extras” – title page, bibliography, and such. These come standard with all academic papers that their writers produce and are not considered extras. Any other extra services that a customer may want should be negotiated with the selected writer.

Papers Quality

It is difficult to assess paper writing quality without samples. We did reach out with a rather public call for customers of this company to provide us copies of college papers that they had received from these writers. Fortunately, we did get a few responses and were able to review the quality of one research paper, one book review, and one custom essay.

Our general impression is that these college papers were well-structured and reflective of scholarly composition. We saw no evidence of foreign-based writing.

Writer`s Proficiency

From the paper and essay writing samples we reviewed, we can say that there is a good level of writer proficiency. This should be the case, considering that these writers are former college professors and have not only produced scholarly works during their own study years but assigned and scored these same academic pieces during their years as professors.

Customer Service

We have to assume there is some type of support team, although we are not specifically told so. While most other writing services speak to their customer support department and give multiple ways to contact that department, there is only one way to contact Unemployed Professors. This is by filling out a contact form describing the question, problem, or issues, and then emailing it to the company. Customers may not telephone a support team agent and get an immediate answer or resolution.

This is an area of some concern. There is only one policy – Terms and Conditions. In that policy, the company clearly states that it is not responsible for the quality, delivery, etc. of the writing products produced by its writers, whom it refers to as freelancers. It also states that no payment is ever refundable.

In this one policy, there is a guarantee of privacy and secure payment through a third-party payment processing firm. These are important, and we are glad they have been included in the policy.

Customer Reviews

We had a tough time finding feedback and comments from customers. We did receive some in response to our public call, and some customers did come forward with feedback. We combed through social media without finding accounts. We check on Site Jabber and Trust Point, two major consumer review sites that we always use. There are no Unemployed Professors review to be found on either site.

We are a bit stumped here. Those few customers who submitted paper and essay writing samples to us were satisfied with their products. Beyond this, we have no information.

Pros and Cons

Here’s where we are as we look at the pros and cons of this company:

  • The content on the website is certainly appealing to college level students
  • The backstory is interesting
  • The quality of products appears to be good
  • Students have control over who they choose to produce a term paper, a research paper, an essay, or even get help with a thesis or dissertation

  • There is too little information on a company that has been around for 9 years
  • There is not a customer support department that can be reached quickly
  • There are no on-site samples for customers to review

Our Verdict

While we feel that Unemployed Professors may be a legitimate writing service, we simply cannot find enough information to form a solid judgment. We would urge the company to develop a far more public presence by soliciting customer reviews on major consumer review sites and setting up accounts on social media platforms.
